The Dreamer

Anna SuiBorn in 1964, Anna Sui started designing when she was only four years old in the suburbs of Detroit MI, making a vow at that age to never wear the same thing twice in one year. Determined to do just that she, compound a very serious approach to learning her technique with whimsical ideas. Sui attended Parsons School of Design in New York and about two years into school she started working with friend Steven Meisel, one of the world’s top fashion photographer, by the styling for the Italian fashion magazine LEI. After Parsons she designed for several sportswear companies. By 1981 Sui launched her very first collection and in 1991 she premiered her first runway show. She continue to create collections and showcase her talents on the runway. Celebrities that can be seen wearing Anna Sui’s collection are Fergie (Blackeyed Peas) and Miley Cyrus.

I fell in love with Anna Sui last year after seeing her 2014 ready-to-wear spring collection. It was a very retro-hippie chic collection with a lot of draped fabrics mostly crochets and airy chiffon. The color palette consisted of different shades of grey, browns, blues, and pinks. I liked how Tim Blanks put it “The Pre-Raphaelites were Victorian England’s rock stars: poets, painters, and lotus-eating romantics who exalted beauty in the face of grey uniformity of the Industrial Revolution.” I’m in love with prints and mixing different prints together and in my opinion Anna Sui does a wonderful job. Here’s some of the collection from Spring 2014:
